The Director of Pharmacy Research plays a crucial role in the management and oversight of investigational drugs, also known as investigational product (IP) or investigational medication product (IMP), used in clinical research trials. This position will coordinate with pharmacy leadership across the health system to coordinate logistics and implement the pharmacy component of clinical research protocols safely, efficiently and effectively. The Director ensures adherence to Good Clinical Research Practices (GCP) as well as State/Federal law, health-system policies and procedures, and applicable standards, including pharmacy best practices. The Director, collaborates with research teams, monitors drug handling and storage, and provides expert advice on pharmaceutical care related to investigational drugs. The Director will work closely with the system research pharmacist, principal investigators (PI), clinical research coordinators and local site research pharmacists and will be responsible for the review, evaluation, and coordination of investigational drug research studies for the system at University of Miami Health System. The Director plays is integral to the University of Miami Health System research program and clinical services. This role will be pivotal in expanding University of Miami Health System research program by improving access to novel treatment options to vulnerable patients and driving clinical outcomes. This position will serve as subject matter expert related to investigational drugs provided throughout the system. Develops and executes a plan to accomplish the department's goals and objectives Continuously communicates progress and exceptions to all constituent groups. Ensures collaboration of all groups to achieve goals Establishes short and long-range management, organizational, operational, and financial plans that aim to successfully achieve the department's goals and objectives Works closely with departmental leadership to determine the right approach, steps and organizational structure to accomplish goals and objectives. Identifies and develops funding sources Develops and executes a marketing plan to obtain additional revenue streams and ultimately increase the profile of the department and the school of medicine Takes a leadership role in recruiting key faculty and staff members Is accountable for the comprehensive an effective communication strategy within the department that promotes a common understanding of the market, vision, strategy, and accountabilities Promotes a culture of two-way communications and creates opportunities for faculty and staff participation Maintains and develops excellent relationships with external constituencies, including working with Advancement and faculty to successfully develop major donors Other duties as assigned Education Doctor of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school or college of pharmacy required. Certification and Licensure Active pharmacist license in the applicable state required. Preferred Certifications and Training Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency strongly preferred. BCPS or BCOP strongly preferred. Experience Minimum of 5 years of pharmacy management experience required, including at least 3 years of advanced experience in investigational drug services, oncology pharmacy, clinical research pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, or another advanced clinical pharmacy setting involving complex protocol review, high-risk investigational therapy assessment, medication-use consultation, clinical workflow development, staff mentorship, quality improvement, and clinical practice standardization. Experience leading complex protocol review, providing advanced medication-use consultation, mentoring pharmacists or trainees, developing clinical workflows or guidance documents, participating in quality improvement, or serving as a subject matter expert preferred.
