Full-Time, Onsite Position Summary The Pharmacy Manager, Hematology/Oncology, is responsible for leading, supporting, and managing the oncology pharmacy team while ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality pharmaceutical care. This position oversees daily pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance, staff leadership, financial management, quality improvement initiatives, and collaboration with interdisciplinary clinical teams. The Pharmacy Manager develops and implements departmental strategies and initiatives that enhance patient care, improve operational efficiency, optimize medication utilization, and support organizational goals. The role requires strong leadership, operational expertise, financial acumen, and clinical knowledge in hematology/oncology pharmacy practice. Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership Manage daily pharmacy operations while ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational regulations and policies. Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Oversee medication procurement, preparation, storage, distribution, and utilization processes to ensure patient safety and operational efficiency. Monitor and manage high-cost drug utilization within Hematology/Oncology and specialty pharmacy services. Lead and support pharmacy-related projects, including planning, execution, stakeholder engagement, and reporting outcomes to leadership. Provide operational and clinical on-call support as required. Support accreditation activities, audits, and regulatory inspections. Identify operational challenges and proactively implement process improvements. Leadership & Staff Management Provide leadership and supervision to pharmacists, pharmacy liaisons, technicians, residents, and support staff. Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, employee development, and disciplinary processes. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and supportive work environment. Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one coaching sessions. Support departmental and organizational initiatives while promoting employee engagement. Serve as a liaison between pharmacy services and interdisciplinary leadership teams. Stay current with advancements in pharmacy practice and healthcare management. Financial & Budget Management Participate in departmental budget development and financial planning. Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize drug expenditure. Conduct financial assessments and forecasting activities. Monitor staffing productivity and scheduling efficiency. Adjust staffing resources proactively to meet operational and financial goals. Support workforce planning and position management initiatives. Clinical Collaboration & Education Partner with hematology and oncology providers to develop and implement clinical programs that improve patient outcomes. Support evidence-based medication management and therapeutic optimization. Develop and deliver educational programs for pharmacists, pharmacy residents, students, and support staff. Mentor and train team members to ensure clinical competency and professional growth. Support the education and development of PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Residents. Quality Assurance & Process Improvement Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on medication safety, operational efficiency, and patient care outcomes. Collaborate with the Medication Safety Officer to investigate and address medication-related safety events. Utilize organizational values and strategic objectives to guide decision-making and departmental initiatives. Implement best practices to continuously improve pharmacy services. Required QualificationsEducation Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution. Experience Candidates must meet one of the following requirements: Completion of a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and PGY-2 Pharmacy Specialty Residency or HSPAL Residency; OR Completion of a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency plus two (2) years of relevant pharmacy leadership or oncology experience; OR Four (4) years of relevant pharmacy leadership and/or oncology pharmacy experience. Licensure Active Pharmacist License in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by date of hire. Preferred Qualifications Experience in Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Practice.
Advanced degree such as:
Master's Degree MBA (Master of Business Administration) Completion of an accredited residency program. Previous leadership or management experience in a healthcare or oncology pharmacy setting. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication-use systems, and regulatory requirements. Strong understanding of oncology pharmacy practice and specialty medication management. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to evaluate, improve, and implement pharmacy services and operational workflows. Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development capabilities. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. Experience with healthcare technology systems and pharmacy information systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
