Job Description

Category Pharmacy-Director of Pharmacy Job Type Contract An immediate leadership opportunity to serve as Director of Pharmacy (DOP) and Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) at a newly opening behavioral hospital in Independence, Missouri. This contract position involves playing a pivotal role in launching the pharmacy department within an inpatient behavioral health setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee pharmacy operations for the new hospital, including setup and workflow design Collaborate with nursing staff to order medications, stock Omnicell machines, and ensure smooth supply management Develop, review, and implement pharmacy policies and procedures Provide on-call pharmacy support weekdays and weekends as required Maintain clear, timely communication through weekly progress calls and emails
Qualifications & Experience:
Active, good-standing Missouri pharmacist license required Proven experience in inpatient pharmacy, preferably behavioral health Prior exposure to order entry systems such as HCS or Cerner is preferred Familiarity with Omnicell automation advantageous Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; flexible and adaptable approach for startup environment
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, plus on-call coverage Weekend on-call coverage only This contract role is ideal for a pharmacist leader ready to establish and direct pharmacy services for a behavioral health facility, supporting patient care excellence from day one. The expected start date is April 27th, no later than May 4th, continuing coverage until the permanent hire is in place.
