Category Pharmacy-Director of Pharmacy Job Type Contract Oversee inpatient pharmacy operations as the Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services at a hospital located in West Plains, Missouri. This contract role requires acting as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to ensure compliance, oversee staff, and maintain high standards of pharmaceutical care. The assignment spans roughly from early July through October, with two weeks of onsite training prior to coverage.
Responsibilities:
Lead daily pharmacy department activities including creating schedules for approximately 4.5 pharmacist and 6 technician full-time equivalents. Serve as PIC, managing regulatory compliance, payroll, and access controls such as Pyxis. Collaborate with the Buyer to address medication supply chain challenges. Chair the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee by preparing agendas, leading meetings, and implementing initiatives. Attend medical staff and quality improvement meetings including monthly COPD readmissions reduction sessions. Order controlled substances twice weekly and oversee sterile compounding as needed. Facilitate daily weekday department huddles and monthly staff meetings. Act as a resource to pharmacy staff for questions and operational concerns without on-call duties.
Qualifications and Experience:
Current Missouri Pharmacist license. Certification in Medication Therapy Services. Proven experience in inpatient pharmacy settings. Familiarity with Meditech Expanse system preferred, especially managing the drug dictionary. Leadership experience overseeing pharmacy teams and committees. Understanding of specialty areas such as OB, orthopedics, pediatrics (excluding PICU), oncology, cardiology, neurology, pulmonology, adult behavioral health, endocrinology, podiatry, general surgery, rheumatology, and wound care.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
