Job Description

Category Pharmacy-Director of Pharmacy Job Type Contract A healthcare facility in West Plains, MO is seeking a skilled pharmacist to serve as Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services on a contract basis from July 7, 2026, through November 7, 2026. This leadership role requires taking on the responsibilities of Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) while supporting a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic hospital environment.
Location:
West Plains, Missouri Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30
PM Contract Term:
Approximately 4 months
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strong leadership as Director of Pharmacy, overseeing daily operations and managing 4.5 pharmacist and 6 technician FTEs Develop and maintain work schedules for pharmacy staff to ensure efficient coverage Collaborate with the Buyer to resolve medication supply chain challenges Lead the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee including agenda creation, meeting facilitation, and implementing initiatives Participate in monthly medical staff and COPD readmissions reduction committees Manage payroll, controlled substances ordering, and maintain Pyxis access controls Conduct daily weekday department huddles and monthly staff meetings Serve as a resource for pharmacy staff questions, although no formal on-call duty is required Oversee sterile compounding as needed, with backup support during staff absences
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Active Missouri pharmacist license required Medication Therapy Services (MTS) certification mandatory Proven inpatient pharmacy experience, preferably with Meditech Expanse order entry system familiarity Leadership skills with experience managing teams and committees Strong organizational and communication abilities in a hospital setting
Work Environment:
The facility provides care across multiple specialties including obstetrics (excluding NICU), orthopedics, pediatrics (excluding PICU), oncology, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, adult behavioral health, endocrinology, podiatry, surgery, rheumatology, and wound care. The site will undergo a Joint Commission survey during the contract period. Professional business casual or scrubs of any color or print are appropriate attire. This role includes onsite training before the incumbent takes maternity leave, ensuring a smooth transition and support.
