Job Description

Summary:
Serves as a director of pharmacy for WCCHS for all pharmacy services provided within the facility including clinical pharmacy services, outpatient and inpatient dispensing, sterile products compounding, miscellaneous compounding and packaging, control of drug distribution and direct supervision of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy supportive staff. Provides direction for the development and implementation of new pharmacy programs and services within the system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited school and possession of a valid license and current registration as a pharmacist issued by New York State and three (3) years' experience as a hospital pharmacist with prior management experience preferred

Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited school
Licensure:
Must hold license to practice Pharmacy in the State of New York.
Experience :
Minimum of 5 years of health-system pharmacy experience; prior management experience preferred

Ability to work well with all levels of Management, abide by WCCHS culture.
Physical Demands :
Involves standing and walking. May be required to lift up to 30 lbs, Requires normal vision and hearing. Willingness and ability to carry out delegated tasks with providers. Courteous, tactful and ability to work well with others. Satisfactory appearance and moral standards. Willingness to work within hospital and departmental policies. Wiliness to attend in-service and continuing education classes. Willingness to attend departmental and committee meetings as requested. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral technical instructions. Ability to function in an atmosphere of tension. Demonstrates excellent computer skills.
Job Duties:
1. Provides general direction for the activities of the professional and non-professional staff of the Pharmacy department at WCCHS. This includes guidance in the interpretation of hospital policy, State and Federal laws and regulations and surveillance of the quality of service being provided and to the support of the medical and other professional staffs in the care of the patient. 2. Responsible for insuring compliance with applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements and formal professional standards pertaining to drug storage, distribution, utilization and control. 3. Identifies needs for expansion and improvement of pharmacy services. Insures that appropriate growth of the department is maintained in keeping with the corresponding growth and development of the WCCHS. Coordinates the development and directs the implementation of new programs and services. 4. Prepares budget recommendations and is accountable for the annual personnel, supply and expense budgets of the pharmacy services. Determines, justifies and recommends capital equipment requirements. 5. Insures representation of pharmacy on committees in which a Pharmacy advisor or member is indicated. 6. Formulates formal policy and procedures for functions and activities within the pharmacy as required by law and to meet the needs of the system. Develops, implements and provides guidance to personnel rendering patient care and develops policies and procedures that involve drug distribution and clinical pharmacy services. Recommends major policy changes involving departmental functions to the appropriate facility administrative body. Collaborates with clinical medicine and nursing leadership in developing policy regarding drug utilization, administration, and the overall drug use system. 7. Directs and coordinates interviewing, recommending candidates to administration/human resources, training and supervision of assistants and other professional and technical staff in the department. Recommends action on appointments, terminations, promotions, salary and other related personnel matters to administration/human resources. 8. Oversees the ongoing review and distribution of the hospital formulary and the Therapeutics Committee newsletters or other communications. 9. Administrator of the Diversion Monitoring Program. 10. Provides the opportunity for the continuing education of professional staff both through in-service education opportunities. Provides direction to individual staff members for professional development that would strengthen the individual's capabilities as well as those of the department. 11. Participates in and coordinates teaching activities related to pharmacotherapeutics, drug safety, and other medication-related topics with medical staff, house staff, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals and trainees. 12. Determines policies related to the purchase and procurement of formulary items and assigns responsibility for contact with the System Purchasing Departments and pharmaceutical vendors. 13. Maintains contact with members of the medical, other professional and administrative staff and facilitates communication between departments and between the Departments of Pharmacy and administration. 14. Improves patient satisfaction of medication education with patients and patient caregivers. 15.
