Job Description
Job Description This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. This position is responsible for managing and providing library services for the University community in collaboration with campus affiliated resource centers. The director is responsible for innovative and collaborative leadership; promoting strategic goals for both the library and the University; integrating library services in support of academic outcomes; and managing resources and personnel to meet changing needs. In addition, this position is responsible for operating a balanced portfolio of four key activities in support of the colleges of
Health Professions, Pharmacy, and Sciences:
(1) information literacy instruction, (2) research support, (3) relationship management, and (4) collection management. Essential Functions This position requires regular, predictable, reliable attendance in the office environment. Director of Library Services 1. Provide leadership in developing, maintaining, and promoting services, facilities, and collections that support existing and future learning, teaching, and research needs of students and faculty. 2. Establish a process of ongoing review, assessment and improvement of activities, resources and services which align with the University's mission and goals and which meet student and faculty evolving needs and expectations. 3. Supervise and evaluate personnel. Identify and encourage appropriate opportunities for staff growth and development. 4. Administer the operating budget and make recommendations for capital budget requests. 5. Prepare related report sections for regional accreditation, state authorization, and professional accreditors. Assure appropriate statistical reports are completed for the university as well as state / national agencies. 6. Perform all other duties deemed appropriate for the position. College Librarian for Health Professions, Pharmacy, and Sciences 1. Plan, teach, and evaluate information literacy skills in major/program courses taught in assigned colleges. Partner with faculty to provide a high-quality instructional experience by using a variety of techniques and formats, including the development of digital learning objects, tutorials, and videos. 2. Provide library research assistance to students and faculty in assigned colleges. Attend regular college faculty meetings. 3. Cultivate formal and informal relationships with faculty and students in assigned colleges to promote relevant services, collections, and resources. 4. Work with faculty on identifying resources supporting their academic programs and strategic goals. 5. Provide special topics training or workshops for students, faculty, and staff. 6. Assist in the creation and maintenance of online research support resources (e.g. LibGuides, videos, etc.) focused on assigned colleges. 7. Work closely with other college librarians to foster collaborative teaching and learning initiatives with other university offices and departments. 8. Prepare library related report sections for regional accreditation, state authorization, and professional accreditors as necessary. Perform all other duties deemed appropriate for the position. 1. Maintain the libraries' web pages on the university's public website. 2. Regularly collect and record electronic resource usage statistics to assist with renewal decision making and for ACRL and IPEDS reporting purposes. 3. Maintain access to digital content and research tools, including troubleshooting and monitoring vendor and OhioLINK correspondence for changes or additions to the library's subscriptions. Supervisory Responsibility This position supervises the librarian and staff, student worker, graduate student, and/or intern. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time 12-month position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Travel Minimal travel is expected to attend OPAL or OhioLINK meetings. Required Education and Experience 1. M.L.S. degree or equivalent from ALA accredited program 2. Three years or more of library work experience. 3. One to three years of experience as library director. Preferred Education and Experience 1. Undergraduate degree or 18 hours of graduate coursework in business. 2. Demonstrate knowledge of the mission, vision, goals and services of libraries and understands how to incorporate those within projects and tasks. 3. Proficiency in budgeting, strategic and facility planning, and project management 4. Knowledge of emerging trends and new technologies in libraries, scholarly communication and research methods, and higher education. 5. Faculty development programs and outcomes assessment.
