COMPANY DESCRIPTION
Mid Coast Health System (MCHS) is a not-for-profit organization, located in El Campo, Texas. MCHS' primarily mission is providing rural healthcare to our local rural communities in Texas. MCHS currently operates 4 acute care hospitals (El Campo, Palacios, Bellville and Crockett), 8 primary care clinics and 1 retail pharmacy. MCHS employs over 400 employees and has a physician organization consisting of 20 primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, as well as other specialties including cardiology, pulmonary disease, gynecology, podiatry and internal medicine. Job Overview Reviews prescriptions and dispenses prescribed drugs according to regulatory requirements and guidelines in a retail environment. Responds to customers questions and advises about drug safety and potential interactions. Manages the transfer of prescriptions, incoming physician calls and drug utilization review. Ensures that pharmacy's patient and financial records are correctly input and maintained. Supervises the daily functions of all pharmacy technicians. Responsible for the overall operational and financial performance of the pharmacy unit. Duties Dispense prescription medications accurately while verifying dosage, interactions, and contraindications using pharmacy software systems. Counsel patients on medication usage, potential side effects, and health management strategies to enhance adherence and safety. Manage inventory levels efficiently, including compounding medications when necessary, to ensure medication availability and minimize waste. Perform patient assessments related to medication therapy management, including immunizations and medication administration procedures. Collaborate with healthcare providers on medical management plans for diverse patient populations such as pediatrics, critical care, and acute care cases. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure confidentiality of patient information within electronic health record (EHR) systems. Support pharmacy technician staff by overseeing workflow, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques during sterile compounding or IV infusion preparation. Requirements Valid pharmacist license in good standing with relevant licensing authorities. Proven experience in a retail pharmacy preferred. Demonstrated expertise in clinical pharmacy practices including pain management, immunizations, and medical terminology. Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology principles, and medication administration techniques. Proficiency with pharmacy software applications as well as electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems. Experience with compounding medications and aseptic techniques for IV insertion or infusion therapies. Strong understanding of inventory management practices within pharmacy operations. Excellent communication skills coupled with a compassionate approach to patient service and education.
