Category Pharmacy-Pharmacist in Charge Job Type Direct Hire This direct hire opportunity seeks an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the opening and management of a new specialty pharmacy in Lufkin, TX. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy, including prior PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience, and be ready to relocate from Houston, Tyler, or other areas. This role offers an exciting chance to build a specialty pharmacy from the ground up, working closely with specialty care clinics to enhance patient outcomes and optimize the specialty pharmacy experience.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the designated PIC, ensuring compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and accreditation standards Manage licensure, controlled substance oversight, and regulatory inspections Oversee daily pharmacy operations, including accurate dispensing, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols Develop policies and procedures for prescription processing, drug storage, and security Lead audits and maintain records for regulatory and accrediting bodies Supervise and train pharmacists, technicians, and support staff Collaborate with healthcare providers and clinic staff to facilitate coordinated patient care and medication access Investigate and resolve medication incidents, ensuring documentation and quality improvement Manage inventory, including procurement and handling of temperature-sensitive drugs Support pharmacy growth and value-based care initiatives through strategic planning Act as a clinical expert in patient counseling, therapeutic substitutions, and prior authorization reviews Build workflows and processes for a startup specialty pharmacy environment
Qualifications:
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced degree Active, unrestricted Texas pharmacist license in good standing, eligible to serve as PIC Prior Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacist-in-Charge experience in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy (inpatient experience not applicable) Knowledge of specialty medications and familiarity with pharmacy software systems such as QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx, WAM; bonus for experience with EMR or specialty pharmacy systems Strong leadership and communication skills, including written skills for composing appeal letters Collaborative mindset and ability to work directly with providers and clients Highly organized with attention to detail and a focus on quality patient care
Location:
Lufkin, TX (Relocation required from Houston, Tyler, or other areas)
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, hours to be determined
Compensation:
$135,000 - $150,000 plus performance bonus, equity stake, and unlimited paid time off This is a direct hire role with a signed contract and an immediate start.
