Job Description

Chesapeake, Virginia Overview The Clinical Pharmacy Manager provides leadership for Riverside's clinical pharmacy services across assigned practice areas. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining evidence-based clinical programs, optimizing medication therapy, ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance, and supporting pharmacy practice standards. The Manager leads clinical pharmacists and supervises daily clinical workflow, care coordination, and pharmacotherapy optimization efforts to improve quality, safety, access, and patient outcomes. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager partners closely with operational leaders, providers, nurses, and system collaborators to advance clinical initiatives, support formulary and medication stewardship activities, and ensure consistent, high-quality clinical services across sites. The role may include clinical practice or staffing as needed to maintain competency and support service continuity. What you will do
Clinical Leadership & Practice Standards:
Provides leadership and oversight for daily clinical pharmacy activities, including patient assessments, medication therapy management, guideline adherence, and documentation.
Care Coordination & Provider Collaboration:
Serves as a primary clinical liaison to physicians, advanced practice providers, and care teams. Supports care transitions and assists in resolving medication therapy problems or access barriers.
Quality, Safety, Accreditation & Regulatory Compliance:
Ensures compliance with regulatory expectations, accreditation standards (DNV, Joint Commission, URAC/ACHC if applicable), and medication-management policies.
Medication Stewardship & Clinical Program Optimization:
Supports formulary management, pharmacoeconomic initiatives, medication-use evaluations, and care variation reduction. Contributes to guidelines, pathways, and therapeutic policy development.
Leadership of Clinical Staff:
Leads, coaches, and evaluates clinical pharmacists and support staff. Oversees competencies, education, prioritization of work, and professional development. Support through staffing as needed
Operational & Program Support:
Collaborates with operational leaders to assure alignment between clinical services and operational workflows. Supports technology optimization, documentation standards, and process improvements.
Professional Leadership & National Engagement:
Stay current on specialty pharmacy best practices; participate in benchmarking and professional activities that strengthen Riverside's specialty pharmacy model Qualifications Education Doctoral Degree, Pharmacy (Required) or Bachelors Degree, Pharmacy (Required) Experience 2 years Clinical pharmacy experience, with at least 1 year in specialty pharmacy, ambulatory care, or chronic disease management (Required) 1 year Completion of
ASHP PGY-1
Residency (Preferred) Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of clinical pharmacy practice, disease management, evidence-based guidelines, and medication-use processes.
  • Understanding of accreditation requirements, regulatory expectations, and medication-management policies.
  • Knowledge of clinical workflows, EMR systems, decision-support tools, and quality improvement methods.
  • Strong clinical leadership and communication skills with the ability to build relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Skilled in clinical assessment, therapy monitoring, patient education, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Ability to organize workflows, mentor staff, and manage clinical priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lead clinical services, implement protocols, monitor quality, and support continuous improvement.
  • Ability to promote safe, high-quality patient care and ensure team accountability and engagement. Licenses and Certifications Licensed Pharmacist
  • Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Licensed in State of Virginia within 60 Days(Required) and Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS)
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties within 5 years (Required) CPR/BLS Certification
