Order Entry Pharmacy Technician

  • Part-Time Department Pharmacy Operations / Front-End Operations Employment Status Part-Time Reports To Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), Pharmacy Manager, or Designated Supervising Pharmacist Position Summary The Order Entry Pharmacy Technician
  • Part-Time supports front-end pharmacy operations by performing prescription order entry, clerical and customer service duties, medication filling and dispensing support, and general pharmacy operational tasks.
This role is responsible for maintaining accurate data entry, professional communication with patients and providers, and an organized, efficient front-end workflow to support safe and compliant pharmacy operations. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOrder Entry & Prescription Support Accurately type and enter prescription orders into the pharmacy software system Review and manage voicemail messages (VMs) and route or resolve as appropriate Ensure accurate patient, prescriber, and prescription information is entered Assist with resolving order discrepancies under pharmacist supervision Front-End & Clerical Operations Answer incoming phone calls professionally and efficiently Work as a front-end clerk, including checking patients out at the register Provide courteous and professional service to patients Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements Provider & Organization Support Communicate with providers regarding prescription information and clarifications Assist with setting up new providers and organizations in the pharmacy system Maintain accurate and up-to-date provider and organization records Document provider communications as required Medication Filling, Dispensing & Packaging Assist with filling and dispensing medications under pharmacist supervision Package medications accurately for patient pickup or delivery Assist with preparing medications for shipment as needed, including organizing packaged orders Ensure proper labeling and documentation prior to dispensing Organization, Cleanliness & Workflow Support Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area Assist with keeping front-end and workspaces tidy, including light cleaning tasks such as sweeping when needed Support efficient workflow and organization of pharmacy operations Inventory & Supply Support Restock pharmacy supplies and patient supplemental information materials Assist with organizing medications and supply areas Notify supervisors of low inventory levels or supply needs General Pharmacy Support Assist with daily pharmacy operations as needed Work collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, and operations staff Perform additional pharmacy-related duties as assigned by supervisors Qualifications Education & Certification High school diploma or equivalent required Active pharmacy technician registration/license as required by state law Experience Previous pharmacy technician or healthcare experience preferred Order entry, clerical, or customer service experience preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong attention to detail and accuracy Effective verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Basic computer and typing proficiency Ability to work independently and as part of a team Physical & Mental Demands Ability to stand, sit, and move throughout the pharmacy during scheduled shifts Ability to lift light boxes or supplies as needed Ability to perform light cleaning and organizational tasks Work Environment Pharmacy front-end and dispensing areas Fast-paced, compliance-driven healthcare environment Frequent interaction with patients, providers, and pharmacy staff Disclaimer This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
