ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Compounding Medications Non-Sterile Compounding:
Prepare a variety of non-sterile compounded medications, such as, but not limited to, capsules, oral liquids, topical medications, nasal preparations, suppositories, troches, and tablets, following USP & guidelines.
Sterile Compounding:
Prepare sterile compounded medications, but not limited to, (e.g., IV admixtures, injectables, eye drops, etc.) in compliance with USP & guidelines, ensuring aseptic technique is consistently applied and maintaining a sterile environment. Ensure all compounded medications meet pharmaceutical standards for accuracy, potency, and elegance. Verify accuracy of compounding formulas, following prescribed instructions to ensure consistency in each batch. Maintain a clean and organized compounding area to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient work. Patient Information & Prescription Processing Operate pharmacy software to gather patient and prescription information, ensuring prescriptions are processed accurately in compliance with company policies and regulatory guidelines. Update and maintain patient profiles accurately, ensuring medication and personal information is current. Confidentiality & Compliance Adhere to all relevant regulatory, accreditation, and internal guidelines, including state and federal laws, HIPAA confidentiality standards, and specific compounding regulations (USP , USP , & USP ). Along with ACHC/PCAB and Nationwide Compounding SOPs. Ensure all compounded medications (both sterile and non-sterile) are prepared following quality control and safety procedures. Follow safety protocols for handling hazardous materials (USP ) and maintaining sterile compounding environments (USP & ). Adhere to state, federal, and regulatory guidelines for compounding and dispensing medications. Quality Control & Accuracy Ensure that all compounded medications are labeled correctly and meet quality standards for potency and pharmaceutical elegance. Perform regular quality control checks to verify that each batch meets prescribed formulas and desired outcomes. Inventory Management Monitor and manage inventory for compounded medications and materials, including bulk ingredients, packaging supplies, and finished medications. Ensure timely ordering and proper storage of all materials, maintaining up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Certificates of Analysis for all chemicals. Assist in managing controlled substances and maintaining accurate inventory records in compliance with regulatory guidelines. Safety & Sanitation Follow established sanitation protocols of deactivate, decontaminate, clean and disinfect for the compounding area to prevent contamination and maintain a clean environment. Perform routine cleaning of equipment and workspace, adhering to daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning procedures. Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials in accordance with safety regulations. Collaboration with Pharmacists Work closely with pharmacists to ensure compounded medications are prepared according to prescribed formulas and meet patient needs. Assist pharmacists in reviewing medication regimens, discussing potential issues with formulas, and making adjustments as necessary. Prescription Call-Backs & Support Assist in the prescription call-back process, confirming patient details and resolving prescription discrepancies. Provide administrative support, including assisting in prescription fulfillment and other operational tasks related to medication preparation. Additional Responsibilities Fulfill additional requests from management as needed.

Compounding Expertise (Sterile & Non-Sterile): Proficient in both non-sterile and sterile compounding, with knowledge of and adherence to USP (non-sterile), and USP (sterile), and USP guidelines. Ensures that all formulations meet required standards for accuracy, potency, and pharmaceutical elegance, while maintaining sterile environments where necessary.
Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge:
Understanding and adhering to state, federal, and industry regulations, including
HIPAA, USP
guidelines (USP , USP , and USP ), and other relevant standards. Essential for maintaining legal and ethical standards within the pharmacy.
Inventory Management:
Skilled in managing inventory for both compounded medications and materials, ensuring that sterile and non-sterile ingredients are available and stored properly, and that controlled substances are appropriately tracked and managed.
Communication & Teamwork:
Strong communication skills for collaborating with pharmacists, other technicians, and patients to ensure accurate and effective compounding, prescription fulfillment, and patient care.
EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy. Prior experience in compounding or laboratory work is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing and walking for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Frequent use of hands for compounding, labeling, and operating equipment. Clear vision for reading labels and verifying medications. Frequent repetitive tasks like mixing, weighing, and measuring. Ability to bend and stoop to access shelves and equipment.
Working Conditions:
Clean, temperature-controlled pharmacy lab; sterile compounding in a clean room. Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and medications; adherence to safety protocols required. Required use of all necessary PPE which includes but not limited to gloves, lab coats, gowns, and protective eyewear. Low to moderate noise levels, with occasional higher noise from equipment.
