Medical Assistant/Pharmacy Technician Job Description Job description A Medical Assistant/Pharmacy Technician is a clinical support to the staff and providers, as well as a resource and advocate for our patients. Daily operational activities such as preparing medication refills, maintaining an orderly medication room, providing direct patient support, documenting refills in NextGen, and keeping account that refills are picked up in a timely manner are integral functions of this position. The position requires the applicant to be fast on their feet, accommodating and enthusiastic. Applicants should have a passion for health and wellness. Responsibilities Prepare medications by measure, mix, count out, draw up, label and record amounts and dosages according to prescription orders Provide courteous customer service and maintain a clean and orderly appearance of the medication room, prioritizing work and processing medication orders in compliance with company policies and procedures Communicate with patients when refill requests are received and when they are ready for pick up while following HIPPA guidelines, ensuring to meet our patients' needs. Work in conjunction with healthcare providers to ensure medications are aligned with overall medical plans of care Document medication refills in our EHR, NextGen Call in prescriptions to patient's preferred pharmacy Clarify any details needed with patients' to ensure refill is filled accurately and timely Assist patients' through the medication window to improving flow in reception area by pulling completed medications and cashing them out through Quickbooks Review medication refills not picked up on a weekly basis to remind patients to pick them up or put them back Participate in contributing ideas to improve patient care and organizational effectiveness Schedule patients in EHR when needed in order to dispense medication Assist with in house injections by filling medication and handing it off to a Medical Assistant for patient injection Possess a growth mindset and seek feedback to improve Qualifications Must have a Pharmacy Technician License or a Medical Assistant Certification Must be able to work closely and effectively with others in a team-oriented environment Strong attention to detail Must be flexible, friendly, engaging and proactive Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with little supervision Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced work environment Proficiency using a Mac computer and patient management software
