POSITION SUMMARY
To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by assisting pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacistPRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES 1.
Fills physician orders or stock requisitions accurately. 2. Preparation of intravenous admixtures (including but not limited to, chemotherapy and biologics) using aseptic technique and safe handling for hazardous drugs. 3. Replenishes medications accurately. 4. Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date. 5. Attends pharmacy staff meetings and reads pertinent email communication. 6. Participates in orientation, education, and training programs. Reviews literature and other materials as assigned. 7. Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements. 8. Maintains patient and department/hospital confidentiality. 9. Maintain Technician Registration. 10. Generates reports as required. 11. Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations. 12. Collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned. 13. Maintain Controlled Substance logs 14. Label all medications in accordance with departmental policies and federal/local standards. 15. Maintain and replenish emergency medication boxes. 16. Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel. 17. Answers requests at the window. 18. Organizes and prioritizes work assignments. 19. Demonstrates good oral and written communication 20. Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean. 21. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor 22. Maintains patient and Department/Hospital confidentiality 23. Works closely with team members to reschedule patients due to unobtainable authorizations and appointments that are out of sequence with treatment plan. 24. Queuing of patient for appointments based on treatment plan and ordering of medications 25. Use of EMR to verify treatment plan 26. Maintains cost effective drug inventory 27. Provides monthly inventory reports to reflect cost changes to inventory 28. Weekly inventory of medication cabinets 29. Maintains IV mixing equipment including but not limited to mixing hoods, ante room and other areas involved in pharmacy. 30. Maintain sample logs and medications. 31. Ability to work independently. 32. Patience, positive attitude, cooperation, works well with others, friendly, problem solving skills, analytical skills, attention to detail - thoroughness. 33. Attention to accuracy, organized, good communications skills (orally and in writing), ability to handle and work well under stress. 34. Good listening skills, good social skills, perform multiple tasks at one time, and are able to make quick accurate decisions. 35. Ability to evaluate medical literature. Education:
High school diploma orGED Licensure:
Current State of Florida Pharmacy Technician registration or current State of Florida Pharmacy Intern registration required.Certification:
National pharmacy technician certification by the PTCB preferredWork Experience:
IV admixture experience requiredKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Computer skills to support distribution systems required At least 5 years of technician experience Availability to work Monday through Friday.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Repetitive use of hands and fingers. Good hand and wrist dexterity to enable typing and/or computer work for 8-10 hours/day. Able to verbalize, read and follow instructions as written or placed in EMR. Ability to work in noisy distracting atmosphere, to handle frequent interruptions, to adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Handle large volumes of work for long periods of time. Walk, bend, stoop, twist, sit, stand for long periods of time, 8-10 hours a day. May require lifting and carrying light loads (Up to 40 lbs.) BenefitsABOUT HEALTH FIRST
