Processing Supervisor/Supervising Pharmacist The Pharmacy Technician specializing in Dispensing & Fulfillment is responsible for the accurate and efficient physical preparation, counting, labeling, and packaging of prescription orders in our compounding pharmacy. This role ensures that all compounded preparations and commercial medications are correctly assembled according to prescription specifications and ready for final pharmacist verification, with all necessary supplies included. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of pharmacy workflow, inventory management, and patient safety protocols.Key Responsibilities:
Order Preparation & Dispensing:
Retrieve and review verified prescription orders from the pharmacy system for preparation. Accurately count, measure, and dispense medications (both compounded and commercial) according to prescription requirements. Select appropriate dispensing containers (bottles, vials, ointment jars, etc.) and ancillary supplies (e.g., measuring devices, syringes, sharps containers, alcohol wipes, patient information leaflets) for each order. Maintain organized staging of prescriptions awaiting filling and final verification. Compounding Preparation (Finished Product Assembly): For compounded medications, meticulously review the batch record and physical preparation to ensure the correct final product is ready for dispensing. Assist with the final packaging and labeling of compounded products according to established procedures.Labeling & Packaging:
Generate and accurately apply prescription labels, auxiliary labels (e.g., "shake well," "refrigerate," "for external use only"), and warning labels to medication containers. Ensure all labels are legible, correctly placed, and contain all legally required information. Package completed prescriptions securely for pickup or delivery, including all necessary patient information and counseling sheets.Inventory Management Support:
Assist with inventory control, including stocking shelves, rotating stock, and identifying expired or nearly expired medications. Communicate low stock levels of medications and dispensing supplies to the appropriate personnel. Ensure proper storage conditions for all medications and supplies.Quality Assurance & Safety:
Perform meticulous visual checks of medications and containers for any defects or discrepancies prior to labeling and packaging. Immediately report any discrepancies, errors, or issues identified during the dispensing process to the supervising pharmacist. Adhere strictly to all state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations, USP compounding guidelines (e.g., USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800> as applicable to handling and dispensing), and internal standard operating procedures.Workflow Optimization & Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with data entry technicians, compounding technicians, and pharmacists to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow from prescription receipt to final dispensing. Prioritize filling tasks based on urgency and patient need. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe dispensing area. Customer Service (Limited): May assist with retrieving completed prescriptions for patient pickup, under pharmacist supervision. Refer all patient counseling and clinical questions to the pharmacist.Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program preferred.Certification/Licensure:
Current State Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure (Florida, if applicable). National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from PTCB or NHA is highly preferred.Experience:
1-2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with significant experience in prescription dispensing, counting, and labeling. Experience in a compounding pharmacy setting is a significant plus.Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy is paramount for patient safety. Strong manual dexterity for counting and handling medications. Proficient computer skills, including experience with pharmacy management software. Solid understanding of pharmacy calculations for accurate dispensing. Excellent organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of medical terminology, drug names, dosage forms, and common pharmacy abbreviations. Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality principles. Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures precisely. Work Ethic & Professionalism (High Priority): Consistently maintains a positive and collaborative attitude , contributing to a productive and supportive work environment. Demonstrates excellent attendance and punctuality , consistently arriving on time for shifts and returning promptly from all scheduled breaks. Reliable and dependable, understanding the impact of their presence and timely return on pharmacy operations on patient care.Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Manual dexterity for counting pills, handling small containers, and precise labeling. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., medication stock). Visual acuity to read fine print on labels and identify medications.Benefits:
