Job Description

  • The intern is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in supplying drugs, fluids, and other services provided by the pharmacy.
They are involved in observing and learning the accurate management of dispensing and clinical functions within the department, provision of information to other professionals, computer order entry, and provision of appropriate patient care as a member of the pharmaceutical care team. Job responsibilities and assignments may vary with demonstrated skills and qualifications.   • Current enrollment in an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy or currently involved in the process of obtaining a pharmacist license in the state of Georgia.
  • Needs basic computer skills in various program requirements of Microsoft Windows applications such as: Word, Excel, Power Point, and others.
  • Professional as well as pleasant demeanor when dealing with departmental, interdepartmental, and public personnel.
Area of Responsibilities
  • Observes the provision of clinical consultations to practitioners. Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to learn the processes to suggest appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
  • Demonstrates competencies in providing pharmaceutical care to age specific patient populations.
  • Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, provides accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff upon request.
  • Will closely observe, and act upon the direct supervision of pharmacists, the day-to-day activities and dispensing functions of the department, such as the preparation of IV admixtures, hyper-alimentation solutions, chemotherapy and immunotherapy solutions.
  • Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, adverse drug reactions, and appropriateness of drug and dose.
  • Attendance at Pharmacy Department staff meetings.
Compliance StatementEmployee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.

The Pharmacy Intern will have frequent contact with fellow department members and other members of the healthcare team. No supervision exercised.
