Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES I. JOB SUMMARY
  • Assists the pharmacist in the processing and filling of prescriptions and medication/medical supply orders.
  • Reviews and enters orders & patient information into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Processes and assists in the maintenance of pharmacy inventory.
  • Performs sales transactions and provides customers/patients with information about medications, health insurance, and other health care related services.
  • Files third-party insurance claims on paper and electronically.

                  III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
                  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
                  • Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer.
                  • Exposure to noise/vibration from office/pharmacy equipment.
                  • Exposure to body fluids, chemicals and contact with patients with communicable diseases.
                  • May be required to work with hazardous drugs, depending upon area of assignment.
                  • Work environment is fast paced, crowded and may be stressful.
                  IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
                  A.
                  EDUCATION
                  • Completion of pharmacy technical program or on-the-job education/pharmacy work experience preferred.
                  B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE
                  • Current Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
                  C. EXPERIENCE
                  • One (1) year of work experience, preferably as pharmacy technician/clerk.
                  • Experience to demonstrate: o Ability to handle cash transactions.
                  o Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. o Ability to be accurate and attentive to detail. o Ability to work in a high-volume, sometimes stressful environment. o Ability to operate different machines such as computer, calculator, cash register.
