Actively Hiring! | Pharmacy Data Technician | Cedar Rapids, IA | ! Job Description This role supports a long-term care pharmacy by accurately entering, verifying, and processing new and refill prescriptions for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes. The pharmacy data technician ensures prescriptions are processed correctly and on time, provides courteous customer service over the phone, and works closely with pharmacy systems to support safe and efficient medication dispensing. Responsibilities + Enter new and refill prescriptions into the pharmacy operating system accurately and in a timely manner to help eliminate dispensing errors. + Triage incoming faxed prescriptions to ensure medications are dispensed on schedule. + Ensure all necessary notes and cycle fill codes are correctly entered in the computer system. + Calculate and verify correct medication dosages based on prescription information. + Respond to incoming calls from customers with care, understanding, and courtesy, routing calls appropriately to provide a high level of service. + Complete all prescriptions assigned for processing within the regular shift. + Receive, evaluate, process, and follow up with prescribers' offices on all assigned refills, including obtaining clarifications and approvals as needed. + Develop proficiency in all pharmacy systems, including document imaging and the legacy pharmacy computer operating system. + Assist, as needed, with filing completed orders, packaging medications, managing inventory, profiling orders for medical records, and filling processed prescriptions for dispensing to patients. + Learn and follow the pharmacy's cycle fill process to meet delivery deadlines for long-term care facilities. + Maintain accurate data entry records for cycle medications, fill requests, and cycle medication orders needing renewal, in addition to new cycle orders. + Perform other essential functions and duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations. Essential Skills + Active Pharmacy Technician certification (such as CPhT or equivalent). + 1-3+ years of experience working as a pharmacy technician in a pharmacy setting. + Proficiency in prescription data entry and medication order processing. + Ability to calculate and verify correct medication dosages. + Experience working with pharmacy operating systems and related technology. + Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry. + Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment. + Professional and courteous telephone communication skills. + Understanding of medication terminology and pharmacy operations. + Ability to follow established procedures and comply with pharmacy regulations. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential. + Experience in long-term care or non-retail pharmacy environments. + Familiarity with document imaging systems and legacy pharmacy computer systems. + Exposure to medical billing processes related to prescriptions. + Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain thorough records. + Comfort working with prescriptions for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes. Work Environment This position is based in a long-term care pharmacy environment, not a retail pharmacy. The pharmacy data technician works primarily at a computer, performing data entry and system-based tasks for extended periods, so comfort with prolonged sitting and computer use is important. The standard work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with an 8-hour shift between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., including a half-hour lunch. Shifts rotate within this time window. The role includes one scheduled weekend per month, with Saturday hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday hours from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. During the week leading up to the assigned weekend, the technician receives one day off and a reduction of a half hour from the other shifts to balance hours. The dress code is casual; jeans and t-shirts are acceptable, and closed-toe shoes are required. The environment focuses on serving long-term care facilities, including nursing homes, assisted living communities, and group homes, with an emphasis on accuracy, reliability, and timely medication delivery. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
