JOB SUMMARY
Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication and Pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Graduate Pharmacy Intern:
Reviews prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy and determines formulas and ingredients needed. Compounds medications using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients. Monitors all posting onto the patient profiles in order that accuracy, drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy and incompatibilities may be realized and better patient care received. Checks patient medication orders prior to delivery to patient care areas to ascertain that the correct drug, dosage form, schedule and strength is being dispensed. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Prepares IV admixtures and extemporaneous parenteral products under aseptic conditions. Directs Pharmacy Department personnel engaged in admixing, packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals. Answers questions and provides information to physicians, nurses, patients and other healthcare professionals on the appropriate use of medications, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage, etc. Assists in teaching programs (departmental, medical, nursing, and community). Endorses policies and procedures of the department and of the hospital.

QualificationsEducation/Certification:
Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy, prior to obtaining active pharmacist license. Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in school education or subsequent training.
Experience:
Equipment/Technology:
Basic computer knowledge. Grasp of automated pharmacy systems, IV Laminar Flow Hood or the willingness to learn.
Language/Communication:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.
