Full Job Description Job Title:
Pharmacy Tech Current shift is 7 on/7 off (10 hour shift, 9PM-7AM, Wednesday-Tuesday) Lawrence, Massachusetts Need someone with hospital experience.
JOB PURPOSE
To assist registered pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of sterile and non-sterile medication, maintains records and inventory, following procedural work routines, to ensure medications are ready and available for patient administration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares medication for dispensing under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist in conjunction with state and federal laws.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Prepares medications for patients to ensure that patient medications are ready when needed. Prepares IV solutions using aseptic technique for patients to ensure that patient medications are ready when needed. Prepares other medications for patients when necessary to ensure that patient medications are ready when needed. Fills code blue carts and boxes according to departmental policies and procedures. Notifies the Pharmacist that the code blue cart is ready to be checked. Delivers controlled substances to Nursing Units following departmental policies and procedures. Refills medications according to refill reports for Automated Dispensing Devices. Completes medication area inspections as assigned by Operations Manager, monthly. Maintains inventory by documenting when addition inventory is needed in the want book and rotating inventory to ensure adequate supplies at all times in accordance with established procedures. Removes expired drugs and reorders the drugs when appropriate. Accepts assignments as designated by Director, Operations Manager or designee to maintain proper department function. Advises the Pharmacist of inappropriateness in any given situation relative to patient drug therapy. Collaborates with the Pharmacist to resolve the problem utilizing acceptable and usual procedure and designated forms. Reports medication errors or near misses using LGH incident reporting system. Reports to the Pharmacist any actual or potential problem or incident as evidenced by early detection of same. Assists in enhancing productivity and efficient operation of the department by completing assignments and workload. Exhibits satisfactory and accurate completion of assignments by end of shift. Exercises initiative seeking additional assignments or tasks. Completes projects within set time frames. Demonstrates skills appropriate to patient age-related categories as defined by

neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Demonstrates the ability to calculate the appropriate dose for the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence. Works toward achieving department and hospital goals as evidenced by the achievement of the goals. Seeks learning experiences in new department programs. Utilizes pharmacy computer systems, including automated dispensing cabinets. Generates reports from the pharmacy computer systems when appropriate. Performs other duties as required in the best interest of the department.
EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE
Required:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
