The technician operates under the supervision and personal charge of the dispensing prescriber and is responsible for the day-to-day fill, label, dispense, inventory, and recordkeeping workflow for oral and self-injectable specialty medications dispensed on-site to established patients of the practice. This is a hands-on operational role focused on accurate dispensing, cold-chain integrity, patient hand-off, and inventory control. Prior authorization, benefits investigation, and copay assistance enrollment are handled by the practice's separate access and billing team and are not the primary focus of this position.
Job Responsibilities:
Receive and process prescriptions accurately while verifying patient and medication information. Fill, label, and prepare medications for dispensing under pharmacist/prescriber supervision. Maintain medication inventory, including stock levels, lot numbers, and expiration dates. Receive and organize medication shipments while ensuring proper storage and cold-chain handling. Process prescription claims, assist with copay collection, and resolve basic billing issues. Document dispensing activity in EMR and pharmacy systems for compliance and audit readiness. Support compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, Michigan Board of Pharmacy, and controlled substance regulations. Communicate with clinical staff regarding medication availability, backorders, and patient needs. Provide professional customer service and coordinate patient pickup or delivery logistics.Qualifications:
Active Michigan Pharmacy Technician license required. High school diploma or GED required. Strong attention to detail, computer skills, and pharmacy math abilities. PTCB/CPhT or ExCPT certification preferred. Previous pharmacy technician experience preferred.Job Type:
