Job Title:
Pharmacy Technician Job Description The Pharmacy Technician supports safe and efficient medication dispensing by accurately processing prescriptions, preparing medications for pharmacist review, and maintaining organized inventory and workstations. This full-time role operates in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where you help ensure that patients receive critical, and sometimes life-saving, medications accurately and on time. You will work with multiple computer systems, assist with packing and shipping orders, and occasionally contact patients to provide customer service and order information. Responsibilities Process and fill prescription orders in preparation for pharmacist verification, ensuring accuracy and completeness for each order. Retrieve medications from stock, count and package medications, and prepare orders for pharmacist review in accordance with established procedures. Perform some packing and shipping of completed prescription orders to patients, following all packaging, labeling, and handling guidelines. Maintain drug inventory and automated dispensing units to ensure medications are stored correctly and are readily available for dispensing. Replenish workstation supplies needed for filling prescriptions, including vials, caps, labels, and other packaging materials, to maintain continuous workflow. Remove outdated products from shelves and assist with inventory replenishment to support accurate stock levels and compliance with safety standards. Maintain par levels of pre-packaged and auxiliary items so that commonly used supplies and medications are consistently available. Work within multiple computer systems simultaneously to process prescriptions, research medication details, and document activities accurately. Respond to questions or provide specific medication details and clinical information as directed, ensuring clear and accurate communication. Occasionally reach out to patients for customer service calls, including providing order updates and clarifying prescription information. Make inquiries regarding shipped orders, including investigating order status and resolving issues in coordination with internal teams. Follow all standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards to support accurate and efficient medication dispensing. Essential Skills Current New Jersey (NJ) state pharmacy technician license. Pharmacy technician experience or training with demonstrated knowledge of pharmacy operations. Pharmacy technician certification (CPhT or equivalent) or eligibility, as indicated by the requirement for pharmacy technician certification. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining strong attention to detail. Proficiency in working within multiple computer systems simultaneously to process prescriptions and access medication information. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage inventory, maintain par levels, and keep workstations stocked and orderly. Ability to accurately count, package, and label medications in accordance with established procedures. Effective communication skills to interact with patients, pharmacists, and team members, including conducting customer service calls when needed. Reliability and flexibility to work the required schedule and occasional overtime or weekends based on business needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy, or similar healthcare dispensing environment. Familiarity with automated dispensing units and pharmacy inventory systems. Comfort working with clinical and medication information to support pharmacists and patient inquiries. Strong problem-solving skills to investigate and resolve issues related to shipped orders and inventory discrepancies. Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a dynamic operational setting. Work Environment This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, scheduled Sunday through Thursday. You will work an 8-hour shift within the normal business hours of 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with the possibility of occasional overtime or weekend work based on business needs. The environment is fast-paced and high-volume, focused on processing and shipping prescription medications accurately and efficiently. You will spend most of your time in a pharmacy operations setting, working at dispensing stations, automated dispensing units, and packing areas. The role involves frequent use of multiple computer systems, handling medications, managing inventory, and preparing orders for shipment. You will work closely with pharmacists and other pharmacy team members in a structured, process-driven environment that emphasizes accuracy, safety, and timely delivery of medications to patients. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pine Brook, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
