Pharmacy Technician (Per Diem•Nights)

Per Diem | Night Shift (11:00 PM•7:00 AM)

Compensation:
$26.87•$40.32 per hour

Comprehensive benefits package and retirement plan Position Summary The Pharmacy Technician supports the Pharmacy Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. This role is responsible for medication preparation and distribution, automated dispensing cabinet management, inventory control, sterile compounding support, medication history collection, and pharmacy technology maintenance. The technician plays a critical role in ensuring medication safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient pharmacy operations throughout the hospital. Key ResponsibilitiesPharmacy Operations Prepare, package, label, and distribute medications accurately and efficiently. Process medication requests and provide support to pharmacists. Fill patient-specific medications, floor stock orders, and emergency medication kits. Maintain pharmacy inventory and assist with medication billing and reporting functions. Ensure compliance with all hospital, state, and federal regulations. Automated Dispensing & Technology Support Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Pyxis automated dispensing systems. Manage system alerts and coordinate issue resolution with Pharmacy IT, Engineering, or vendor support teams. Support additional pharmacy technologies including EPIC, KitCheck, and logistics systems. Coordinate equipment installations, relocations, maintenance, and replacements. Analyze inventory utilization and optimize medication storage and dispensing workflows. Generate utilization and performance reports for pharmacy leadership. Emergency Department Support Conduct medication history interviews for patients pending admission. Obtain and document complete medication profiles, including dosage, frequency, and last administered dose. Assist providers in accurate medication reconciliation processes. Quality & Compliance Adhere to USP <797> and USP <800> standards for sterile and hazardous medication handling. Maintain infection prevention and regulatory compliance standards. Participate in performance improvement initiatives and departmental competency programs. Attend required meetings, training sessions, and mandatory in-services. Promote excellent customer service and collaborative teamwork. QualificationsRequired High School Diploma or equivalent. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification OR current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy. Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in New York State. Hospital pharmacy experience required. Ability to maintain continuing education requirements established by the certifying board. Strong computer and pharmacy system proficiency. Mandatory Requirements New York State Pharmacy Technician Registration. Flu Vaccination Required (No Exemptions). Ideal Candidate Experienced in hospital pharmacy operations and automated dispensing systems. Knowledgeable in medication safety, inventory management, and pharmacy technology.
