Job Title:
Pharmacy Technician 2 Job Description This role focuses on processing prescription exceptions, resolving insurance claim issues, and supporting patients and prescribers through accurate data entry and responsive communication. You will handle prescription data processing, research and resolve rejected insurance claims, and collaborate closely with pharmacists to ensure safe and efficient prescription fulfillment. Responsibilities Process prescription exceptions accurately and efficiently, including resolving claim rejects and performing member and physician outreach as needed. Enter member demographics and prescription information into the data processing system with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Research and resolve rejected insurance billing issues, ensuring timely resolution for members and prescribers. Investigate and resolve escalated member issues related to prescriptions, billing, or coverage, providing clear and professional communication throughout. Escalate questions regarding prescriptions to a Pharmacist for clinical interpretation or guidance on appropriate processing steps. Assist with inbound patient or physician calls by gathering information, addressing questions within scope, and routing calls appropriately. Assist with outbound patient or physician calls to clarify prescription details, resolve issues, or complete referral and authorization processes. Meet or exceed productivity expectations by typing approximately 95 prescriptions per day when working in the pre-authorization queue. Meet or exceed productivity expectations by processing approximately 72 referrals per day (about 9 referrals per hour) when working in the pharmacy callback queue. Use basic computer systems and tools to manage prescription data, insurance information, and communication records. Maintain compliance with state regulations, company policies, and pharmacy practice standards at all times. Collaborate with pharmacists and other team members to ensure safe, accurate, and timely prescription processing. Perform other duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations and patient care. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Current Pharmacy Technician license in Missouri (MO) or Texas (TX), as required by state of operation. Current Pharmacy Registration and Certification as required by the state of operation. Pharmacy Technician Certification such as PTCB or CPhT. 2-4 years of Pharmacy Technician experience, including at least 2 years in a pharmacy setting (retail, hospital, or specialty). Experience processing prescriptions and referrals in a high-volume environment. Ability to type and process approximately 95 prescriptions per day when assigned to the pre-authorization queue. Ability to process approximately 72 referrals per day (about 9 referrals per hour) when assigned to the pharmacy callback queue. Basic computer skills, including data entry and navigation of pharmacy or healthcare systems. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when entering member and prescription information. Ability to research and resolve rejected insurance billing issues and escalated member concerns. Effective verbal and written communication skills for member and physician outreach. Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists and team members and escalate clinical questions appropriately. Additional Skills & Qualifications National pharmacy technician certification (nationally certified Pharmacy Technician) is highly preferred. Experience processing referrals at a rate of approximately 9 per hour is preferred. Prior experience in retail, hospital, or specialty pharmacy environments. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change in processes, systems, and workflows. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting. Work Environment This role is primarily data entry-focused and may be performed in a work-from-home environment, depending on business needs and location. You will work with computer-based pharmacy systems, insurance platforms, and communication tools to process prescriptions, manage referrals, and support patients and prescribers. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Chesterfield, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $33.10/hr.
