Job Description

Job Summary Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager (Director), the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing direct patient service by preparing and dispensing medications, giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care team and monitoring patient drug therapies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting (along with the Pharmacy Manager) physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibilities. Dispenses medications by compounding (when needed), packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration. Maintains records for controlled substances and removes outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory. Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, participates in the clinic performance improvement program. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing 340B Program results as needed. Promotes FCHC and its services to area residents. Attends all scheduled staff meetings. Assists with maintaining compliance with all laws, regulations, and guidelines related to the delivery of health services in a federally funded health center. Handles all communication in a professional, positive manner. Completes other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

  • In the absence of the Pharmacy Manager, serves as the covered entity's compliance expert on 340B program details, policies, and procedures.
  • Acts as the liaison with necessary affiliated departments to ensure 340B Program integrity.
  • Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, provides expertise with the 340B Program to staff and participants regarding ongoing compliance.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are developed, implemented, and maintained according to organizational, regional, national, state, and federal requirements and guidelines.
  • Establishes consistent policies and procedures for 340B that ensure productivity and efficiency so that long-term management of the program does not hamper operations or create unnecessary costs.
  • Ensures that the 340B pharmacy program is continuously compliant with 340B federal regulations.
  • Must be able to present clear, concise and comprehensive oral and written reports.
  • Under direction of the Pharmacy Manager, must be able to advise program personnel of existing, new and pending fiscal guidelines pertaining to program activities.
  • Must establish and maintain an effective system of controlling costs.
  • Must be flexible, trustworthy, and accurate in performing the required duties.
  • Must demonstrate a working knowledge of information systems, medical billing and collections procedures, budget preparation and organizational development principles.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to meet and communicate effectively with the general public.
  • This position may require occasional travel and occasional evening and/or weekend work.
  • Valid state certification.
  • Experience with the 340B Drug Discount Program strongly preferred.
  • At least 3 years of pharmacy technician experience preferred.
  • Must be capable of receiving prescriptions both over the phone and in person.
  • Must be capable of entering prescriptions into the computer database.
  • Ability to dispense medications.
  • Must be able to work with insurance companies.
  • Adept at maintaining inventory of prescription medications.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
