Job Title:
Pharmacy Technician - Patient Care Coordinator (Intake) Job Description This role focuses on intake pharmacy operations, where you support patients by accurately processing referrals, creating patient profiles, and ensuring prescriptions are clinically accurate for processing. You will serve as a key point of contact between providers and the pharmacy, helping to simplify access to medications and support personalized patient care. This is a contract position, typically lasting 6-9 months, with the potential for permanent hire based on performance. Responsibilities Review the contents of incoming referrals to ensure all required information is complete, accurate, and appropriate for processing. Create detailed and accurate patient profiles from scanned or faxed images by entering correct patient demographics and provider information. Perform an initial check of prescriptions to verify clinical accuracy and readiness for processing. Communicate proactively with providers regarding referral status, prescription clarifications, missing information, and patient-related concerns. Update concise and clear progress notes so that other team members can quickly assess the status of each referral within the workflow. Enter new provider information into the system accurately to maintain current and reliable records. Collaborate with colleagues in intake and related functions to support efficient, high-quality patient care. Utilize computer systems and data entry tools to manage prescription, insurance, and referral information with a high level of accuracy. Apply knowledge of prior authorization, insurance, and retail or specialty pharmacy processes as needed to support patient access to therapy. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of pharmacy technician experience, not including time licensed or employed as a pharmacy technician trainee. Active Pharmacy Technician License in Texas (TSBP) - required. Active PTCB certification (CPhT) - required. Hands-on experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or specialty pharmacy settings. Strong computer skills and ability to work efficiently with electronic systems and scanned or faxed documents. Proficient and accurate data entry skills, including the ability to type quickly and accurately. Ability to review prescriptions and referrals for completeness and clinical accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with providers and documenting progress notes. Ability to work onsite full-time during the specified schedule and training hours. Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in handling patient, provider, and prescription information. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in intake pharmacy technician roles or similar patient care coordinator positions. Background in retail pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, or prior authorization processes. Familiarity with insurance-related workflows in a pharmacy setting. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential. Proven ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes and systems. A positive, eager-to-learn attitude and an interest in taking on challenging work. Ability to manage multiple referrals and tasks while maintaining accuracy and timeliness. Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain clear, concise documentation. Work Environment This is a fully onsite role in an office-based pharmacy support environment with no hybrid or remote options. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CST, and the team requires consistent availability for this shift. Initial training lasts approximately three weeks, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CST; candidates must be able to commit to this training schedule and remain flexible to work either 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. afterward, depending on business needs. You will work in an office setting with your own cubicle, using sit-stand desks and standard computer equipment to manage referrals, prescriptions, and patient information. The workspace allows for personal touches, and you may decorate your desk according to your preferences. The environment supports focused, detail-oriented work while contributing to a mission of improving patient access to medications and personalized care. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
