Job Description

An exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to join a rapidly expanding specialized team within a large healthcare system in San Antonio, Texas. The candidate will work collaboratively with our cross-functional team to provide care to patients with various chronic illnesses. We are interested in employing a highly motivated, well-organized person to join our established team of providers, pharmacists, and data coordinators. Schedule is full-time, in office and weekdays. Candidate must be able to reliably commute to our San Antonio office. Competitive pay and benefits! Job duties include but are not limited to: Submit prescriptions for biologics and specialty medications to designated specialty pharmacies. Track prescription status and ensure timely medication delivery and administration coordination. Obtain and verify insurance information for patients, including medical and pharmacy benefits. Conduct benefits investigations to determine coverage, copay obligations, and authorization requirements. Identify and assist eligible patients in enrolling in copay card programs, manufacturer-sponsored patient assistance programs (PAP), and charitable grant funding sources. Communicate with providers, pharmacies, insurers, and patients to streamline access and remove barriers to therapy. Document all activities accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) and/or pharmacy management system. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available funding resources and insurance trends affecting access to biologics. Provide compassionate, patient-centered communication to support individuals navigating complex treatment and insurance systems.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) preferred or required, depending on state regulations. Minimum 2 years of experience in a community pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, or medical office environment. Strong understanding of insurance processes, including prior authorizations, benefits investigations, and appeals. Experience working with specialty medications, patient access programs, or biologics coordination strongly preferred. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR), pharmacy systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first mindset. Spanish preferred but not required.
