Pharmacy Technician (Trainee) Job Description The Pharmacy Technician Fulfillment supports the safe and accurate preparation and distribution of prescription medications within a micro fulfillment center. In this role, you operate the fulfillment system to prepare prescriptions, assist with prescription processing issues, and collaborate closely with pharmacists, patients, and prescribers. This position offers a contract-to-hire path and is an excellent opportunity for newly certified technicians to gain hands-on experience in a non-retail pharmacy environment. Responsibilities Prepare prescription medications using the pharmacy fulfillment system in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Process prescription exceptions, including resolving claim rejects and coordinating outreach to members and physicians as needed. Enter accurate member demographics and prescription information into the data processing system to ensure complete and compliant records. Research and resolve rejected insurance billing issues, working to correct data or coverage problems and minimize delays in medication delivery. Investigate and address escalated member issues related to prescription processing, billing, or coverage, ensuring timely resolution. Escalate questions or concerns about prescriptions to a Pharmacist for interpretation, clarification, or direction on proper processing. Assist with inbound and outbound calls with patients and physicians, providing information, obtaining clarifications, and supporting continuity of care. Follow all applicable pharmacy regulations, internal policies, and quality standards while handling medications and patient information. Collaborate with pharmacy team members to maintain an efficient workflow and support high-volume prescription fulfillment. Contribute to a clean, organized, and safe work area within the micro fulfillment center. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Current Pharmacy Technician/Pharmacy Technician Trainee license as required by the state of operation. Certification or license that remains valid and will not expire within the next 90 days. 1-4 years of Pharmacy Technician experience, or at least 6 months of experience for candidates who are newly licensed. Demonstrated experience working in a pharmacy setting, with familiarity in prescription processing and fulfillment. Ability to accurately enter member demographics and prescription information into a data processing system. Experience resolving insurance claim rejects and addressing billing issues. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling prescriptions and patient information. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, physicians, and pharmacists by phone and in person. Capability to follow directions from pharmacists and escalate clinical or processing questions appropriately. Additional Skills & Qualifications Pharmacy Technician/Pharmacy Technician Trainee certification, license, or certificate in good standing. Experience working in a fulfillment environment is beneficial. Comfort working with pharmacy fulfillment systems and related technology. Ability to work effectively in a structured, process-driven setting with high prescription volumes. Interest in transitioning from retail pharmacy to a micro fulfillment center environment. Motivation to grow within a contract-to-hire role and build a long-term career as a Pharmacy Technician. Work Environment This role is based onsite at a pharmacy fulfillment center in Mechanicsville, Virginia. You will be supporting high-volume prescription preparation and distribution. The environment is structured and process-oriented, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and efficiency in handling medications and patient data. You use pharmacy fulfillment systems and data processing tools throughout your shift and collaborate closely with pharmacists and other technicians. Compared to a traditional retail pharmacy, this micro fulfillment center offers a stable schedule and a quality-of-life environment, with fewer direct retail interactions and a stronger emphasis on streamlined operations and workflow consistency. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Mechanicsville, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $17.50/hr.
