Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under direct departmental supervision, and following established policies, procedures and regulations assists with or performs various technical procedures or drug preparation, maintenance or exams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs daily operational duties under the direction of the pharmacy supervisor/manager. Follows department policies, procedures, and best practices for pharmacy operations. Communicates with hospital and clinical staff as necessary to facilitate care. Participates in inventory management. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must be enrolled in an accredited Pharmacy School Program. Requires basic interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with a variety of departmental and hospital personnel when obtaining and/or replenishing medications. Requires skills necessary to verify medication information with computer records, and appropriate documentation associated with medications. Knowledge of typewriter/computer terminal keyboard required. Requires registration with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy intern.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Pharmacy work environment with potential or rare exposure to unpleasant odors from chemicals. Rare exposure to infectious agents when handling hazardous materials. Potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Patient care environment involves some exposure to noise and increased temperature.
