Pharmacy Technician 1563 Sand Plant Road South Charleston, WV
JOB STATEMENT/SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Technician prepares medications under the direction of a licensed pharmacist. This position assists with prescription processing, inventory management, patient support services, and general pharmacy operations. The Pharmacy Technician ensures compliance with state regulations and organizational policies while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
Prepares routine medications for dispensing under the supervision of a pharmacist. Refers all clinical questions or prescriptionrelated concerns to a pharmacist. Receives and processes written and electronic prescriptions and refill requests. Enters prescription information into the Pioneer RX system accurately and in a timely manner. Establishes and maintains accurate patient profiles. Prepares and submits insurance claim forms. Stocks, organizes, and takes inventory of prescription and overthecounter medications. Creates and submits 340B drug orders. Completes Indigent Drug Program forms and maintains corresponding records. Inventories and enters samples and Indigent Drug Program drugs into the Pioneer Rx system. Maintains provider sample inventory and places monthly orders. Provides information related to medications and pharmaceutical access programs as instructed. Operates pharmacy equipment and standard office machines including computers, fax machines, and copiers. Maintains cleanliness and order in the pharmacy area. Handles payments, bags merchandise, and manages returns or exchanges. Projects a professional image and provides courteous customer service. Follows all SWVHS policies and procedures when interacting with patients and team members. Submits documentation in an accurate and timely manner. Supports onboarding and training of new pharmacy staff. Attends required inservice training sessions and meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies Demonstrates alertness, organization, and responsibility in a pharmacy setting. Follows detailed instructions and exhibits accuracy in handling medications. Communicates effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Always maintains professional conduct and patient confidentiality. Education (level and type) and Related Work Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Licensed Pharmacy Technician or eligibility to become licensed after training period (required). Working knowledge of pharmacy systems and basic computer skills required. Experience in pharmacy, healthcare, or customer service preferred.
