Position Title:
Phlebotomist II (Float)
Work Location:
Home Base - 290 Longridge Road, Stamford, CT (Floating between Greenwich, Norwalk & Stamford PSCs/IOPs)
Assignment Duration:
3-
Month Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM - 6:00 PM (hours may vary) Rotating Saturdays required after training
Position Summary:
The primary function of a Phlebotomist is to perform assigned duties including specimen collection, troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements across multiple patient service locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data Collect and store specimens following established procedures Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes (blood, urine, fecal, etc.) Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required Verify test requisitions or labels against orders for accuracy Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity Store specimens at required temperatures using proper containers Follow protocol-specific procedures for specimen handling and transport Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations Attend required annual training sessions Handle incoming calls and communicate lab-related information as needed Perform specimen collection and processing in PSC and IOP settings Travel between multiple sites and adapt to different workflows Work independently or with small teams depending on site
Qualifications & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required Minimum 6 months to 1 year of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or healthcare setting 2-4 years of overall experience preferred Proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles Experience with specimen processing (centrifuging, labeling, handling) Comfortable handling difficult draws (hard sticks) Basic computer skills; Microsoft Office preferred
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Majority of the shift involves standing (breaks provided) Medium-sized PSC and IOP environments Some sites staffed with 1-2 employees; others may require working independently Floating role requiring travel between multiple locations Initial training includes orientation in

Full-time:
40 hours/week Approximately 40-60 patients per day Experience with pediatric to geriatric patients required Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and good driving record required Required vaccines: MMR, TB, Hep B (declinable) Color vision required Contract-to-hire opportunity based on performance
