Phlebotomist Job Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination procedures. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection, such as urine or fecal, as required. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature. Place samples in the appropriate collection container/tube, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of the specimen. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills Phlebotomy certification valid for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Skills in pediatrics and adult blood drawing for all age groups. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma orGED. 0-2
years of experience in related fields. Work Environment Work in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, handling blood and other specimen collections. Use of standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges is required. Adherence to safety regulations and proper specimen handling protocols is essential. Dress code is typically medical scrubs or appropriate lab attire. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bear, DE. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
