Responsibilities:
Draw high-quality blood specimens from patients across all age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations, ensuring safety and comfort. Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing according to established protocols, maintaining accuracy and integrity. Create a welcoming, professional environment by building rapport with patients, explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring their comfort and confidence throughout the process. Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of all specimen collections, labels, and patient interactions. Adhere to infection control, safety standards, and confidentiality policies at all times. Perform daily equipment checks, handle specimen transportation, and ensure specimens are correctly labeled and stored. Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment. Demonstrate leadership behaviors, including punctuality, dependability, and a positive attitude, while collaborating effectively with team members and supervisors. Support process improvement initiatives and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Required Skills:
Minimum of 6 months of direct phlebotomy experience in a clinical or outpatient setting. Exceptional venipuncture skills, including pediatric and geriatric populations. Strong focus on accuracy, confidentiality, and patient safety. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate procedures clearly and empathetically. Proficiency in keyboarding, data entry, and maintaining electronic or paper records. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Reliable transportation to the worksite, with a commute time within 20-25 minutes. Have Skills:
Certification in phlebotomy (required in some states). Medical assistant or paramedic training. Customer service experience in retail or service environments. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems or lab information systems.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Phlebotomy certification preferred or required depending on state regulations. At least 6 months of professional phlebotomy experience; 1+ years preferred. Experience working in a healthcare or clinical laboratory setting.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts. Ability to consistently arrive on time and complete entire shifts. Demonstrated commitment to patient confidentiality and safety. Physical ability to stand, walk, and perform blood draws for extended periods. Successful completion of background checks and compliance with health and safety protocols.
