Full Job Description Position Summary:
A Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support in healthcare settings while performing blood collection procedures. This role ensures patients receive quality care by assisting healthcare providers, preparing patients for examinations, collecting laboratory specimens, and maintaining accurate medical records.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures safely and accurately. Label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing. Verify patient identity and explain procedures to patients. Monitor patients for adverse reactions during or after blood draws. Record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight. Assist physicians and nurses during patient examinations and procedures. Administer injections and medications as permitted by state regulations and employer policies. Prepare examination rooms and maintain medical equipment. Administrative Duties Help manage patient flow. Update and maintain electronic health records (EHR). Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries. Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant and/or Phlebotomy training program preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification may be required. Skills and Competencies Strong venipuncture and specimen collection skills. Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures. Excellent communication and patient-care skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Proficiency with electronic medical records systems. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Frequent walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity required for blood collection and medical procedures.
