Responsibilities:
Professionally draw blood samples from patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, following established safety and procedural protocols. Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring correct labeling, handling, and documentation. Explain procedures to patients compassionately to create a trusting environment that alleviates anxiety. Maintain accurate records of all specimen collection activities and update patient information in electronic health records with attention to detail. Operate in a safe, clean, and professional environment, adhering to health and safety guidelines at all times. Assist with logistical tasks such as inventory management of supplies and ensuring a well-organized work area. Demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills by focusing on process excellence and confidentiality of patient information.
Required Skills:
Proven phlebotomy skills with recent, error-free experience in a clinical setting, including pediatric and geriatric specimen collection. Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately. Strong data entry and keyboarding skills to accurately record and maintain documentation. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, with a commitment to adhere to scheduled shifts and stay for entire shifts. Have Skills:
Previous experience performing blood draws in retail or service environments. Medical assistant or paramedic training highly valued. Phlebotomy certification preferred (mandatory for candidates in California, Nevada, and Washington). Experience handling paperwork and specimen processing beyond blood draws.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 6 months of recent, direct phlebotomy experience is mandatory. Over 1 year of professional phlebotomy experience is preferred. Prior customer service exposure in a healthcare or retail setting is advantageous.
Other Requirements:
Valid phlebotomy certification (where applicable) and current competency in specimen collection. Reliable personal transportation, with a commute time ideally within 20-25 minutes of the worksite. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed, to support staffing requirements. Must list home city and commute time on the resume to confirm geographic proximity. Ability to work scheduled shifts promptly and stay for the entire duration; excessive tardiness or absenteeism will lead to termination. Physical ability to perform venipuncture, work on feet for extended periods, and handle specimen collections safely.
