As a Lab Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing high-quality, error-free blood draws from a diverse patient population, including pediatric and geriatric clients. Your role is vital in ensuring specimens are collected, labeled, and prepared accurately for lab testing, directly contributing to precise diagnoses and effective treatment plans. You will also help create a comforting atmosphere for patients by explaining procedures clearly, demonstrating professionalism, and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Responsibilities:
Draw blood samples from patients of all ages using established phlebotomy techniques. Prepare specimens for laboratory testing following proper protocols. Maintain accurate and detailed records of collections and specimen processing. Explain procedures calmly and professionally to patients, fostering trust and confidence. Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized work environment. Ensure specimens are properly labeled, stored, and transported to the lab. Demonstrate leadership behaviors by adhering to process excellence and confidentiality standards. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily operational goals. Assist in maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and organizational policies.
Required Skills:
Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques. Strong knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and specimen handling. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Proficient keyboarding and data entry skills. Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor with patients and staff. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call hours as needed. Have Skills:
Experience working in a clinical or retail healthcare environment. Pediatric and geriatric blood collection experience. Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states such as California, Nevada, and Washington). Medical assistant or paramedic training.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 6 months of direct phlebotomy experience; 1+ years preferred. Customer service experience in a fast-paced setting. Previous data entry or electronic health record (EHR) experience.
Other Requirements:
Candidates must list their home city and commute time to the worksite on their resume; a commute within 20-25 minutes preferred. Must have own reliable transportation; reliance on rideshare or public transit is not acceptable. Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime. Demonstrated punctuality and commitment to attendance; excessive tardiness or absenteeism will disqualify. State-specific licensure or certification as required by law. Ability to perform physical tasks involving standing, bending, and handling specimens.
