Job Description

PHLEBOTOMIST
We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team in our outpatient diagnostic laboratory service center. The ideal candidate will excel in performing blood draws, labeling and processing specimens, and maintaining accurate patient records while ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture blood drawing and other specimen collection, such as urine and fecal samples. Demonstrate proficiency in using straight needles and butterfly needles. Understand and interpret lab orders, physicians' orders, and blood work orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately. Label, centrifuge, and split specimens as required by test protocols. Freeze specimens according to required temperatures and place samples in appropriate containers. Accurately label specimens and follow procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Update patient information and record data related to specimen collection. Decontaminate work area and equipment after use. Essential Skills Phlebotomy Blood draw Venipuncture Specimen processing Understanding of pediatric, oncology, and geriatric patient needs Knowledge of vacutainer use Additional Skills & Qualifications 1+ year of phlebotomy experience in Lab Draws, preferably in a medical diagnostic lab or hospital laboratory Proficiency in venipunctures in lab or hospital settings Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination. Update patient information as necessary. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Understand and follow all physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100%. Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them. Follow procedures specific to protocol to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department training sessions. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed. Work Environment This position is based in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, where adherence to safety protocols and procedures is essential. The role may require standing for extended periods and handling biological specimens. The dress code aligns with healthcare industry standards to ensure safety and hygiene. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Panama City, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
