About the
Role:
The Phlebotomist at Larkin Community Hospital (LCH) plays a critical role in the healthcare delivery process by performing blood collection procedures with precision and care. This position ensures that blood specimens are collected safely, accurately, and efficiently to support diagnostic testing and patient care. The Phlebotomist will interact directly with patients, providing a compassionate and professional experience to reduce anxiety and promote cooperation. Additionally, the role involves maintaining strict adherence to infection control protocols and laboratory standards to guarantee specimen integrity. Ultimately, the Phlebotomist contributes to the overall quality of patient care by facilitating timely and reliable laboratory results.Minimum Qualifications:
Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician from an accredited program. Knowledge of standard infection control practices and safety procedures. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting. Additional certifications related to patient care or laboratory procedures. Bilingual language skills to support diverse patient populations. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages following established protocols and safety guidelines. Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling and handling of specimens to maintain accuracy and traceability. Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment and work areas to comply with infection control standards. Document procedures and maintain accurate records of blood draws and patient interactions in the hospital information system. Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate specimen collection schedules and address any patient concerns or complications.Skills:
The Phlebotomist utilizes technical skills daily to perform accurate and safe blood draws, ensuring specimen quality for laboratory analysis. Effective communication skills are essential to explain procedures clearly and comfort patients, fostering a positive experience. Attention to detail is critical when labeling specimens and documenting information to prevent errors and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations. The ability to follow strict infection control protocols protects both patients and staff from potential hazards.
