Overview:
As a Lab Phlebotomist, you will be at the forefront of patient care, responsible for drawing high-quality blood samples and preparing specimens for laboratory testing. Responsibilities:
Draw blood samples from patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, using proper venipuncture techniques. Prepare and label specimens accurately, ensuring proper identification and adherence to established protocols. Verify patient demographic information and obtain patient signatures post-venipuncture to ensure specimen integrity. Maintain meticulous records of collection data, labeling, and processing activities in accordance with organizational policies. Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, explaining procedures to foster a trustful environment. Follow stringent safety and infection control procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all. Adapt to multiple work locations, including patient service centers and clinical offices, often with minimal notice. Exercise good judgment to make decisions based on established protocols, exercising confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Assist with additional specimen collection duties as needed, ensuring workflows are efficient to meet high-volume demands. Support process improvements and uphold a positive professional image within the healthcare setting.
Required Skills:
Proven expertise in venipuncture and capillary blood collection; experience with pediatric and geriatric patients preferred. Strong understanding of specimen handling, labeling, and processing standards. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing time efficiently across multiple locations. Attention to detail to prevent errors and ensure specimen accuracy. Basic proficiency with keyboard and data entry systems. Reliable transportation and a clean driving record, with the ability to travel between multiple sites as needed. Knowledge of healthcare safety standards, confidentiality policies, and OSHA regulations. Nice to
Have Skills:
Medical assistant or paramedic training or background. Phlebotomy certification, especially for candidates in California, Nevada, and Washington. Experience in a customer-focused retail or service environment. Familiarity with laboratory information systems or data entry software.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. At least three years of hands-on phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections. Two or more years working in a patient service or clinical laboratory environment highly preferred. Certification in phlebotomy is advantageous and may be required based on state regulations.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime shifts. Ability to maintain punctuality and full shift attendance, as excessive tardiness or absenteeism can lead to employment termination. Must list your home city and commute time to the worksite on your resume (within 20-25 minutes preferred). Physical capability to stand, sit, and perform venipuncture and specimen handling for extended periods.
