Job Description

Position Summary The Phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining blood specimens and other laboratory samples from patients using appropriate collection techniques while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality. This position supports providers and clinical staff by accurately collecting, labeling, processing, and preparing specimens for laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols and regulatory standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages. Verify patient identity and accurately label specimens. Prepare specimens for transport and laboratory processing. Maintain strict infection control and OSHA safety standards. Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of specimens and sharps. Document patient information and specimen collection accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR). Monitor laboratory supplies and notify appropriate personnel when inventory is low. Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy and laboratory areas. Assist patients with questions and provide clear instructions regarding laboratory procedures. Respond professionally to patients who may experience anxiety, dizziness, or discomfort during specimen collection. Follow HIPAA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality. Support clinical staff with additional patient care duties as assigned. Participate in quality improvement and compliance activities. Maintain current certifications and complete required training. QualificationsEducation High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred. Experience 3 years phlebotomy experience in a medical office, clinic, or laboratory preferred. 3 years eClinicalworks Certifications Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification preferred. Current CPR certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong venipuncture and specimen collection skills. Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and infection control practices. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion with patients. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Basic computer and EMR proficiency. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to perform venipuncture procedures. Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, and reach. Adequate vision and hearing to safely perform job duties. Able to travel locally between Macon, Warner Robins, Forsyth & Gray when needed to fill in. Work Environment Medical office or clinic setting. Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required. Schedule Expectations Full-time or part-time position based on clinic needs. May require occasional early morning, evening, or weekend coverage. Pay:
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour
