Phlebotomist II Job Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves drawing and processing specimens, mainly working with adults and geriatrics in a clinic that offers a variety of services. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment. Update patient information and ensure specimens are collected and stored according to established procedures. Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal samples, as required. Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure 100% accuracy in labeling and packaging specimens for transport. Store specimen samples at required temperatures and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department training sessions. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to fulfill requests. Essential Skills Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma orGED. 2-4
years of experience in phlebotomy. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to multitask and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Excellent customer service skills. Experience drawing blood and processing specimens. Familiarity with laboratory procedures. Work Environment The work environment is an IOP setting with around 25-30 draws per day. The schedule is from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, with rotating Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. Training and orientation will be provided for the first two weeks, and depending on the candidate's location, training could occur at the worksite, Arlington Heights, or Elgin. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Algonquin, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
