Job Title:
Phlebotomist II Job Description The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. The role involves drawing blood, labeling specimens, centrifuging samples, and updating patient information. Responsibilities Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. Decontaminate work areas and update patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department training sessions. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Preferably 2 years of experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. Experience with venipuncture, specimen collection, and straight needle drawing. Ability to perform pediatric and adult/geriatric draws. Additional Skills & Qualifications Great customer service skills. Comfortable with additional testing services such as drug screenings and paternity testing. Ability to handle checking patients out. Work Environment The schedule is Monday through Friday with rotating shifts between 7 am and 8 pm, including occasional Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The role requires flexibility to cover various locations throughout the Chicagoland area. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oak Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
