Job Description
Job Title:
Float Phlebotomist Responsibilities Perform blood draws, labeling, and centrifuging specimens. Record maintenance data and perform decontamination. Update patient information. Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer phone inquiries and read laboratory results. Essential Skills Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. 2 years of phlebotomy experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. Experience with venipuncture and specimen collection. Experience with straight needle drawing. Professional demeanor and strong customer service skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. Comfortable with additional testing services such as drug screenings and paternity testing. Work Environment Working hours from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and rotating Saturdays from 8 am to 12 pm. The candidate should be comfortable with occasional floating to other locations within the Chicagoland area, with availability required from Monday to Friday, 6 am to 9 pm, and Saturdays from 6 am to 5 pm. The candidate will work alongside another phlebotomist, performing 50-60 draws per day and will be trained on drug screens and paternity testing. The work environment involves a mix of blood draws in the morning and drug screenings in the afternoon. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orland Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
