Job Description

Harrison County Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our team!
Education/Requirements:
High school graduate with on-the-job training in a clinical laboratory. One year experience preferred. The lab phlebotomist performs skin punctures to obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing. Responsible for prompt, accurate processing of test requisitions, accurate charging, registering and ordering tests for outpatients, informing techs of stat and other timed or urgent testing. Distributes and files test results and physician orders, telephones patients, physicians, and nursing units when required. Processes and handles specimens according to lab protocol. Performs capillary testing. Performs EKGs for outpatients. Answers all telephone calls to the lab and transfers calls as needed. Maintains neat and organized collection trays, collection areas, and work areas. Persons in this position are expected to demonstrate logical/professional behaviors under demanding and stressful conditions. Demonstrates knowledge skills and behaviors appropriate to the population served, based on specific criteria and/or age specific considerations, as follows: Has the ability to perform phlebotomy and capillary puncture procedures for neonates and infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Has the ability to communicate patient preparation and procedure information to the parents of neonates and infants, and to communicate at the level of patient understanding for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Has the ability to obtain and interpret information from the parents of neonates and infants, and directly form children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients necessary for appropriate patient care.
