Consistently performs venipunctures and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages. Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work environment and appropriate utilization of lab supplies. Follows laboratory policies and procedures. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Understand the importance of patient identification and proper collection techniques for optimal samples. Has thorough knowledge of specimen requirements. Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. Performs quality control procedures and instrument checks. Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing. Meets current documentation standards and policies. Interacts professionally with the Laboratory Director, physicians, medical staff, laboratory staff and patients. Follows standard precautions at all times. Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CMS, state and other regulatory requirements. Completes duties in a time efficient manner, knows how to prioritize STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders and outpatients. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements Professional Requirements:
Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations. Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Wears identification while on duty. Completes in services and returns in a timely fashion. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with coworkers. Attends annual review and departmental in-services as scheduled. Attends staff meetings; reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and quality improvement (QI) activities. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control. Uses AIDET with each patient interaction.
Regulatory Requirements:
Education requirement Certification preferred Current BCLS certification.
