Job Description The Phlebotomist I plays a key role in providing high-quality patient care by performing blood draws and other specimen collections, ensuring accurate labeling and handling of samples, and supporting efficient workflow in a fast-paced patient service center. This role combines technical phlebotomy skills with strong customer service, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Perform venipunctures and collect specimens (blood, urine, fecal) using straight and butterfly needles Explain procedures clearly and provide a positive experience for patients of all ages Accurately collect, label, process, and store specimens following protocol Verify test orders and match requisitions to specimens with strong attention to detail Prepare and package specimens for transport, ensuring proper handling and temperature control Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow all OSHA and safety guidelines Update patient information accurately and assist with basic lab-related phone inquiries Deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced setting, seeing approximately 60-80 patients per day Required Skills & Qualifications Active phlebotomy certification (as required by the state) At least 6 months of phlebotomy experience in a lab or hospital setting Strong venipuncture skills using straight and butterfly needles Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment Excellent attention to detail and commitment to specimen accuracy Professional communication and customer service skills Knowledge of OSHA, DEP, and general clinical safety standards Work Environment This position is based in a medium-sized patient service center that supports a high volume of patients, typically serving 60-80 individuals per day. The phlebotomist works alongside approximately two to three other team members in a collaborative setting. The role requires standing for most of the shift, with a 30-minute lunch break and two 10-minute breaks provided. The environment involves direct interaction with patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric, requiring a professional, calm, and courteous demeanor. Orientation and training are provided during the first two weeks to familiarize you with site-specific procedures, equipment, and safety protocols. The workspace follows strict clinical, safety, and regulatory standards, with routine use of phlebotomy and specimen processing equipment such as needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and temperature-controlled storage units. Attire is consistent with a professional clinical setting, supporting cleanliness, safety, and patient confidence. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Paducah, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
