GENERAL DUTIES
Ensures/provides quality specimens for laboratory testing: Accessions specimens accurately and efficiently evaluates specimen appropriateness. Processes samples to preserve sample integrity, correct centrifuge times and processes histology samples. Transports samples to correct locations and stores samples under appropriate conditions. Operates systems/methodologies in order to produce timely and accurate data for patients, quality check, and proficiency testing: Performs daily bench quality assurance checks. Handles established tasks during routine and heavy workflow, using good judgment prioritizes tasks-at-hand. Observes systems and resolves issues, minimizing negative impact to patient care. Checks mechanics and responds appropriately to instrument alarms, recognizing unusual data trends. Reports clinical data accurately and efficiently so that care givers receive timely patient information: Uses computer skills to evaluate data, document actions and control workflow. Minimizes clerical and technical that adversely affect patient care. Maintains systems to ensure maximum up-times: Performs regular system maintenance, reviews statistics for system problems and performs as-needed troubleshooting, minimizing the need for urgent or unneeded repair visits. Avoids urgent supply requests and minimizes supply loss due to expiration, inventories and/or notifies appropriate person of shortages or submits orders and receives and stores supplies. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory standards in order to satisfy compliance requirements: Follows site specific SOPs, manuals, and instructions. Follows regulatory agency guidelines (CAP, JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA, state, FDA, AABB). Overviews daily operation of department/section for optimum operation: Serves as point of contact for medical staff and nursing and regulatory/compliance agencies. Provides feedback for evaluations, counseling, and competencies and assists with schedules and bench assignments for staff. Maintains current procedures and evaluates/implements new procedures, oversees MT/MLT student program, lectures, and clinical rotations and assists in regulatory inspections.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS 5
years of experience in a General Clinical Lab with at least 3 years in a Blood Bank required. Related supervisory experience required.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent
