Job Description

The Laboratory Associate provides services as part of the patient care team. Primary responsibilities involve all aspects of specimen collection including registration, order entry, processing, packaging, preparation and transport of specimens. Performs age appropriate phlebotomy procedures on neonatal, pediatric, adult and/or geriatric patients. Assumes responsibility for compliance with all State, Federal, Hospital and Laboratory policies and procedures.
Requires strict adherence to quality control guidelines to ensure the integrity of laboratory specimens and accuracy of results. Assumes responsibility for supply ordering and inventory control. Acts as a liaison between customers and the laboratory to ensure customer satisfaction with laboratory services by answering inquiries/resolving problems and relaying results. May perform Microbiological tasks including, but not limited to: planting of all culture types, preparing slides for staining, and incubating plates/plants at proper temperature.
Requires multi-campus rotation. Responsible for working weekends, holidays, and for covering other than primary shift, as assigned.
Appropriately prioritizes processing and transport of routine and stat specimens.
Complies with all established guidelines to ensure integrity of all laboratory specimens.
Successfully handles multiple tasks and changing priorities.
Complies with all established regulations, policies and procedure regarding packaging and transport.
Clinical Responsibilities; related to specimen identification, collection and labeling.
Properly identifies patient/specimen using established policies.
Performs specimen collection in an accurate and timely manner.
Complies with all established policies regarding specimen labeling.
Clerical Responsibilities; related to processing specimens, computer entry and recordkeeping.
Performs order entry according to established policies in an accurate and timely manner.
Performs registration according to established policies in and accurate manner.
Can perform all appropriate computer functions (print results, reprint labels, standing orders, batching)Maintains accurate, organized and legible written records (temperature logs, add-on, stericycle)Monitors supply inventory and maintains area in neat and organized manner.
Utilizes hospital standards for proper phone etiquette.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE1.
High School graduate or equivalent preferred2. Successful completion of approved phlebotomy program preferred3. Completion of Phlebotomy Internship preferred.4. 1 Year experience preferred.CERTIFICATION/LICENSEValid State Driver's LicensePhlebotomy Certification Preferred Pay Range:
$21.00 - $28.26The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
