Job Description
Phlebotomist Spaulding Hospital
- Boston and Cambridge United States, Massachusetts, Cambridge 1575 Cambridge Street (Show on map) May 14, 2026 Summary Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions
- Draw blood for tests, transfusions, donations, or research. May explain the procedure to patients and assist in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions.
- Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
- Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods.
- Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
- Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methods.
- Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License]

- Knowledge of various techniques in collecting specimens.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA Regularities and an ability to maintain absolute discretion over highly sensitive patient information.
- Talking to others to convey information effectively.
- Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.
- Superior customer service skills, clear communications skills, and ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.
- Knowledge and practice of proper aseptic techniques necessary to prevent injury to self and patients. This is a full-time position with a rotating schedule.
