Job Description

The department of Health, Behavior and Society (HBS) is seeking a
  • _Phlebotomist_
•. HBS is dedicated to research, education, and practice on public health issues rooted in human behavior and social conditions from smoking and substance use to diabetes and HIV and more. The Phlebotomist supports the conduct of a research project. Collects and organizes data through study-specific procedures that may include community outreach, data collection, sample collection, laboratory work, and/or field work. Provides general administrative support for meetings/events, communications, reporting, etc. This position is responsible for drawing blood from study participants who consented for HIV testing, data collection, and data entry of testing data.
  • Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • + Assist in developing operational plans to meet research goals.
+ Set up tools and procedures for data collection and study processes. + Collect and organize data per study requirements, e.g. participant interviews, administer questionnaires; conduct background research, laboratory processing, etc. + Process data by organizing data records and study files. + Run basic analyses and prepare routine reports. + Perform literature searches, abstract data from literature searches and index gathered data. + Other duties as assigned. _In Addition to the Duties Above_ + Collect blood samples via venipuncture and fingerstick for consenting study participants; prepare DBS cards. + Perform HIV rapid testing and document results in Excel-based logs. + Complete Maryland State Laboratory request forms; assign proxy IDs; label, package, and ship specimens to CDC and state labs. + Maintain confidentiality of participant information, including survey responses and HIV test results. + Manage inventory, anticipate supply needs, and ensure proper specimen storage and handling. _Non-Standard Work Hours Requirement_ + This position requires evening and variable hours based on fieldwork needs. + Data collection is conducted in both the study office and field locations using a mobile project van. + Typical field hours are 5:00 PM
  • 1:00 AM, with in-office hours from 4:00 PM
  • 8:00 PM. + The standard workweek is Monday through Saturday, with occasional Sunday shifts as needed.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • + High school diploma or graduation equivalent. + One year of related experience. + Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • + Bachelor's Degree in a related field. + Spanish-speaking. + Flexibility with work hours.
